Cricket Control in Noblesville, Indiana

At one point and time in your life, you’ve gotten up from your spot on the couch, grabbed a shoe and started hunting all around the house just to eliminate that one cricket that won’t stop filling your home with its incessant chirping. Crickets can be found in the warmer parts of your home, such as the kitchen or the room that houses your furnace and water heater. Crickets don’t make their way into your home on purpose. It is hard for them survive indoors, let alone breed. Crickets prefer to live outside and stumble into your home by jumping through an open window, door or any other type of opening or they will make their way inside when the weather becomes atrocious. Once inside, the crickets will most likely make their way into any cracks they find in the house or behind any of the baseboards, making them nearly impossible to get to.

Just having one or two crickets in the home won’t bring upon any damage, but if you have noticed a large amount hiding around your home, this could lead to a number of issues because of their tendency to chew. There are two different types of crickets present here in Noblesville, Indiana; the house cricket and the field cricket. The average house cricket will be ¾ of an inch to one inch long. It possesses a brownish-yellow body with three dark bands on their head and wings. House crickets will eat just about anything, including certain fabrics, paper and even rubber. A field cricket is a bit smaller than the house cricket, measuring between ½ an inch to ¾ of an inch long. Their bodies can be a darker brown or even black and possess a pair of curved wings. These crickets will feed on plants as well as fabrics and are especially attracted to light during the nighttime.

Here are a few simple tips to prevent crickets from coming into your home:

  • Reduce any clutter, piles of clothing, etc. to reduce the amount of hiding areas for the crickets once they get inside.
  • Calk/seal any and all entry points that the crickets might be able to get into, such as cracks in the foundation or windows and any cracks/holes near the doorways.
  • Keeping control over the grass/weeds close up to the house will also prevent the crickets from making their way into your home. Low grass = less hiding spots.
