Pates Introduce
For residents and business owners nestled in the scenic Northeast Georgia mountains, particularly around Rabun County and Lake Rabun, the need for reliable pest control is a year-round reality. The beautiful natural environment, while appealing, also brings a unique array of pest challenges, from common household insects to destructive wood-destroying organisms and nuisance wildlife. Pates Pest Control, operating locally out of Lakemont, GA, is one of the service providers dedicated to helping the community manage these issues.
Pates Pest Control is positioned to be a local choice for general pest management and related services. Based on available public data, the company is recognized for offering a range of solutions that go beyond simple spraying, including specialized services necessary for the longevity and health of Georgia homes. This includes essential treatments for wood-destroying insects and dedicated moisture control efforts, which are paramount in the humid climate of the region. Furthermore, they are noted for providing professional wildlife management, a crucial service when dealing with animals like raccoons, squirrels, or bats seeking refuge in attics and crawlspaces.
However, potential customers located in Georgia must be fully informed about the complete picture of Pates Pest Control’s operation, which includes significant and recurrent concerns regarding customer service and reliability, as highlighted in public reviews. While the core pest treatment work, when completed, may address the immediate issue—such as killing a majority of ants after an initial visit—the commitment to follow-up, honoring service warranties, and professional communication appear to be areas of serious difficulty for the company.
Customers have reported considerable frustration with difficulties in scheduling initial appointments, facing delays of several weeks, and experiencing non-responsiveness after initial contact. More critically, reports indicate major problems with technicians failing to return for promised follow-up visits, as well as a persistent inability to contact management to resolve issues or claim a refund under a service warranty. One customer reported being advised by a representative to "go to Wal-Mart to buy an ant repellent," instead of the company fulfilling its guaranteed service, which suggests a severe lapse in professional customer care and commitment to their own service agreements. For a service as critical as pest control, especially when dealing with potential wood-destroying insect situations like termites or beetles, such delays and poor communication pose a significant risk to property owners.
Pates Pest Control is situated centrally to serve the mountainous communities of Northeast Georgia, making it a local option for Rabun County and surrounding areas.
The company's office is located at:
5989 US-441, Lakemont, GA 30552, USA
This location, right off a major US highway, allows for reasonable accessibility to local homes and commercial properties, a necessary feature for effective response times, although customer reviews indicate that logistical accessibility does not always translate into responsive customer service.
Pates Pest Control’s service portfolio is designed to address a comprehensive range of pest and structural issues common to the Georgia mountains. The reported offerings include:
- General Pest Control: Management and elimination of common household pests such as ants, spiders, roaches, and other crawling insects.
- Wood Destroying Insect (WDI) Inspections and Treatment: Essential services for detecting and treating structural pests like termites and wood-boring beetles, often critical for real estate transactions and homeowner peace of mind.
- Nuisance Wildlife Control: Specialized services including "live-trapping" and removal for animals like bats, foxes, raccoons, rats, skunks, and squirrels that may invade residential or commercial structures.
- Moisture Control and Mold Remediation: Installation of foundation vents and vapor/moisture barriers to mitigate water issues in crawlspaces, a critical preventive measure against structural damage and pest attraction in the humid Georgia environment.
- General Exclusion Services: Pest-proofing your home to prevent future unwanted entry by sealing access points.
Based on their service offerings, the potential and actual strengths of Pates Pest Control include:
- Local Rabun County Presence: Provides a physically local option for residents who prefer to work with nearby businesses.
- Comprehensive Service Scope: Offers a wider range of services than many small operations, including general pests, WDI, moisture, and nuisance wildlife removal.
- Focus on Wildlife: Noted for specialized "live-trapping" and removal of various animals, addressing a frequent problem for homeowners in wooded areas of Georgia.
- Structural Protection Services: The offering of moisture control and exclusion services demonstrates an understanding of preventative maintenance for Georgia properties.

For residents in the Lakemont and surrounding Northeast Georgia area, Pates Pest Control offers a tempting package of comprehensive services, including specialized wildlife and moisture control that are highly relevant to properties in this region. The ability to handle everything from ants to raccoons from a single local provider can be highly convenient. On paper, their capability to perform essential WDI inspections makes them a necessary contact point for both homeowners and real estate professionals.
However, the overwhelming and consistent negative feedback regarding their customer service, follow-through, and basic business responsiveness presents an extremely significant drawback. Customers report chronic issues with long waits, unreturned phone calls, failure to complete work outlined in an agreement, and a refusal to honor warranties or provide refunds. The risk of paying for an incomplete service or facing long, frustrating delays while a critical issue like a termite infestation progresses is a major concern that any prospective Georgia client must weigh.
A critical need, such as an inspection for active wood-destroying insects, requires prompt and reliable service—qualities that Pates Pest Control, based on customer accounts, struggles to provide. Therefore, while Pates offers a wide scope of services, the reported failure in the fundamental areas of scheduling, communication, and fulfilling warranty obligations makes it essential for any local user to exercise extreme caution. It is highly advisable for homeowners in the Georgia area to explore alternative, more reliably responsive local and regional pest control companies before committing to Pates, especially for time-sensitive or warrantied services. The value of a comprehensive service is negated if the company cannot be relied upon to deliver it in a professional and timely manner.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!I stopped in their office 6 weeks ago to ask for pest control service and was told they were 6 weeks out I got into town and stopped by their office again on Monday may 24th and was told the person in charge would not be back till Friday? I need pest control service and more importantly an inspection to see if I had an active wood destroying situation Such as termites or Beatles? Again no response I called 2 times the 25th and the 26 finally got a response. But NO VISIT??I think their doing their best to GO OUT OF BUSINESS!NO EXCUSES FOR NOT CALLING A PAYING CUSTOMER BACK!
June 01 · Randy M.I would never recommend this company to an enemy. I have ants in my store I called pates to come out. They spayed and killed the majority of them. I was told to wait a few days and they would die then they were supposed to come back after the 3 days to put grandulates down. They never showed back up and now the ants are back just as strong. I've called for a month trying to get them to fulfill there 3 month warranty and I keep being swept aside. I was even told to go to Wal-Mart to but an ant repellent. Isn't that what I paid them for? The lady on the phone doesn't care and won't pass my messages to anyone higher on the food chain. She refuses to give me my money back so I can pay someone else to finish their job. This is by far the worst experience ive ever had with a pest control company.
June 30 · tyler booneGreat customer service! They took the time to answer all my questions and provided a long-term solution. I appreciate their dedication!
